Hello my dear friends and family,

As we plunge into the New Year, Ray and I are following God's leading in the work He has called us to for the deaf. It seems that we make our plans, but as the Lord will do, He changes them. As God unfolds His will in our lives it is our desire to have you praying for us and with us.

As you are already aware, God has called us to partner with and start schools for the deaf in countries all over the world. Most of our work is in Africa, but we also have partners in Cambodia, Pakistan, Philippines and now Haiti.

This year we have been making plans to go to Africa to visit some of the schools we are partnering with as well as areas where we want to begin a school. While in the process of making these plans, a group in Haiti, The 410 Bridge, contacted us and shared about the work they are doing for the deaf (http://www.cbdeafministry.org/Graphics/Newsletter/Project-Brief-Deaf-Leveque.pdf). The 410 Bridge has requested that Ray and I to join them on their next trip so we can help with the project. Their next trip is March 9-15 (just around the corner). Saying yes to this group would mean moving our trip to Africa to May or June of this year.

Ray and I have been praying about this and feel this is God's will for us. We are asking you to please pray with us for confirmation of this decision. The 410 Bridge will be seeking a grant to help raise funds for us to go to Haiti and we will also be seeking financial support for going to both Haiti and Africa.

(Visit http://www.410bridge.org/change-kenya/410-haiti-communities/deaf-community/)

The earthquake that struck Haiti in January of 2010 left nearly 1.5 million people homeless. Among those left without a home was a group of deaf individuals and their families. Somehow in the midst of the chaos following the earthquake over 400 deaf, and family members of the deaf, settled together on a small temporary piece of land in the heart of Port-au-Prince. These deaf individuals and their families lived in tents and struggled to find enough food and water to simply survive. As they began to settle into their temporary homes, they formed relationships, leaders emerged, and a community was created. In 2011 the Red Cross replaced their tents with temporary homes and The 410 Bridge began to work with the leaders to create a permanent community.

These individuals desire to work hard, further their education, have a place to worship, and become productive members of society. In addition to housing, the community members will have access to safe drinking water, a quality school, and a local church.

Ray and I will be working with the deaf leaders to help them with education for the deaf children, literacy workshops for deaf adults, sign language for hearing family members and bible study lessons and tools for the mature deaf Christian leaders. We feel this is the beginning of something big that God is doing in Haiti and we are humbled to be allowed to be a part of it.
We need your support, please pray for us as we prepare and raise funds for this trip.

His Hands Reader
Posted on Monday, January 09, 2012.
Hello to all my CB Deaf Ministry friends,

Praying that you are all enjoying the New Year!

I have been having discussiona with Bob Achgill regarding his ministry His Hands Reader. After watching the samples and learning Camaroon Sign Language (and French!) I thought this was a great website. He still needs lots of help and I thought that we as a team could support him with prayer and possibly give him some hours teaching the signs from each of our countries. Please let me know if you are interested. I am praying that God will use this tool to allow the deaf to "hear" His word!

You can view the website at http://www.godanddeaf.org/HHR/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx

You can view the reader at http://www.hishandsreader.org/Home.aspx

Please let me know if you are interested in getting involved. Also, keep this website as a reference to use while teaching others or learning another signed language!

Just think of the possibilities!

Pastor Duke - Benin
Pastor Chrispinus, Pastor Henry, Strive Deaf Club - Kenya
Pastor Joel - Uganda
Pastor Kamonyo and Evangelist Augustin - DR Congo, Burundi
Pastor Andre - Camaroon
Pastor Shahbaz - Pakistan
Missionary Stephanie - Cambodia
Pastor Jerry - Philippines
Micah - Haiti
and several from the U.S.

Please pray for this project and how God can use it for His glory. Also, please pray about what CB Deaf Ministry's role in this project can be.
Blessings to you all!

CB Deaf Ministry Celebrates 10 Years of Serving
Ten years ago when we first started this ministry with one video and one booklet, we had no idea where God would take us. It has been an exciting adventure as God has led us in so many new directions.

We began with the vision to share the spiritual needs of the Deaf to the hearing and to help them, with tools and workshops, to begin deaf ministries throughout the United States. Later, we added deaf adoptions to the website after we adopted our own precious gem, Emily. Next, God began to have us reach out to deaf ministries, churches, orphanages and schools throughout the world.

Now, we are opening our own schools in various countries in Africa and seeking sponsors for the children so that we can provide the best education and opportunities for them as God directs.

God led us to some great men of God to be our directors in these countries and a Coordinator for the entire Continent of Africa, Pastor Duke Alfred. In our partnerships we are able to reach more deaf children in Africa than ever before. You can read more about what is happening in Africa at http://cbdeafministryafrica.com

As school is getting closer to opening in Africa we are in serious need of funds to complete some projects, especially in Kenya and DR Congo. If you are interested in making a donation please contact me or go to www.cbdeafministry.org.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 by Oct 31st, please pray with us as God nudges those He wants to use for this purpose. 100% of all donations go to the field!

Deaf Child Sponsorship Spotlight by Pastor Joel Tonny, Uganda
Name: Nakafuuma Latecia
Age: 3 years
Country: Uganda
Gender: Female

Leticia was born deaf, she has two hearing brothers, and she is studying at Deaf Elite Education Center/CB Deaf School, Uganda. Her father left all the responsibility about her to her mother, saying in his clan doesn't give birth to deaf children. He even asked the mother to take the child to her real father. The "curse" of deafness can cause such misery in a family's life. She is glad to join the family of deaf girls and boys at the school. She has been introduced to sign language, and is learning quickly.

She wishes to have that dear life other kids have. We are sure it is possible for her to have it. I call upon you, any one, to share in the life of Leticia. A gift sponsorship of $40 a month can do a lot to change the life of Leticia giving her education, clothes, food, medical and all her other needs.

Mission Trip (Third Time's a Charm)
This Spring Ray and I will be heading to Africa to visit the ministries and children that we help to support. We are very excited to finally get to meet in person these beautiful people after all these years of emails, texts, phone calls and Skyping. We have tried to go there two other times, but always something gets in the way. We ask for prayers to cover us so that nothing will block our trip this coming year. (Note: After writing this, but before I had it ready to send I had a minor car accident. I have a broken rib and whip lash along with some bumps and bruises. Please pray for my recovery and protection for my family as we plan this trip.)

We plan to go to each country where we have a school/ministry for the Deaf. We will begin in Benin, then on to Burundi, Kenya, DR Congo, and Uganda. We are hoping to bring schools supplies, treats and lots of love and encouragement to all the staff. If you would like to send a donation for this trip please click on Donate to this Ministry.

CB Deaf Ministry Board of Directors and Staff
As CB Deaf Ministry is growing so is our "staff". I say "staff" because everyone on our team is a volunteer. There are no paid positions here at CB Deaf Ministry and I pray it will always stay that way. Please pray for our "staff" that God will protect them, provide for them and guide them in all the work they have been called to do.

Just received this message from our deaf evangelist in DR Congo, Augustin:

Thank the Lord and praise Him for the safe arrival of Pastor Kamonyo’s family in Goma from Kisangani . We continue to work together friendly and we see the hand of God in the work, because last Sunday 10 Deaf who were Muslim and unbelievers decided to give their life to Jesus. I was chosen to teach them about baptism.

Praise God for His life giving message!

Our prayer is that God will continue to use this ministry to reach out to the Deaf and bring them into a relationship with Him.

May God bless you!

Ray, Kathryn and Family

Help Stephanie stay in Cambodia

A letter from our missionary in Cambodia:

To those of you who are already supporting me, thank you! and please continue to pray for God to bring in the rest of my monthly support.

Hello! I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to update you on what I have been up to, and how you can help me continue my work in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

I have been living and working in Cambodia since August of 2010. God called me to work among the Deaf community while on The World Race in 2008 and 2009. I have since joined an organization called The Hard Places Community which allows me to serve the Deaf as well as work against the sexual exploitation of Cambodia’s precious children. Here is an overview of how I spend my time here.

Sok Leap: While on the World Race, I met a 10 year old Deaf boy named Sok Leap. Being the only Deaf child in his orphanage, Sok Leap is often overlooked and left out of group activities including Bible Studies and computer classes. From the time I met this boy God began to burden my heart for him. I have built an intentional relationship with him in order teach him the love and truth of Jesus through Bible stories and discipleship.

The Deaf Community of Phnom Penh: There are currently no ministries for the Deaf or even interpreted church services in Cambodia. As I have prayed about these people, God has brought me to Isaiah 62:12 “And you will be called Sought Out, a City Not Forsaken.” God is seeking out the Deaf of Cambodia. He has not forsaken them and is sending me to help show them His love and their identity in Christ. I am in the process of learning Cambodian Sign Language and becoming involved in the Deaf community for the purpose of sharing Christ with them.

Kid’s Club: Kid’s Club is a sort of perpetual Vacation Bible School that takes place at a park surrounding a Buddhist Temple. This park is known for gang activity, prostitution and the sexual exploitation of children. My team and I minister to the children who live and work at the park every weekday through Bible teaching, crafts and showing them they are loved and valued by us and the Lord.

God has called me to this, but He hasn’t called me to it alone. I need your financial help to continue these ministries. I am working to raise $1,200 per month in one-time gifts and monthly pledges. I am currently at 42% of this goal or $500 per month. This means I am still in need of $700 per month in support. This can be accomplished through the following, (but any amount is greatly appreciated).

3 People giving $100 per month plus
5 People giving $50 per month plus
6 People giving $25 per month

Please prayerfully consider partnering with my passion and ministry. You can do this by giving on-line at http://tiny.cc/supportsteph. You can also send a check to Commissioned Believer’s Deaf Ministry:

Please put my name in the Memo Line and on a separate sheet of paper, indicate ‘Support for Stephanie Davis’. 100% of support given through Commissioned Believers will come directly to me in the field. Commissioned Believers is a non-profit organization and your gifts are tax-deductible.

In addition to financial support, I covet your prayers. You can follow my blog at soughtaftercambodia.wordpress.com. I will share stories of what God is doing and how you can continue to pray for me and the Cambodian Deaf community.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
Your investments are eternal.

Blessings!
